Our Programs

If you or someone you know is interested in improving their reading, writing, math, English language skills, wants to become a citizen, and is 18 years old, we have a tutoring program for you!

Call 920-493-3667 for both English and Spanish assistance.

Adult Tutoring

Students interested in improving their skills in reading, writing, math and/or English Language skills can register for a tutor.

First, students may call and register over the phone for a meeting with a volunteer evaluator. Next, all learners are interviewed and take a placement test before being put on the waiting list for a tutor. Most students are quickly matched with a tutor depending on their abilities and availability.

Cultural Literacy

Cultural literacy is the ability to understand and participate fully in a culture; the ability to understand its signs and symbols, its social and historical references, its jokes, idiomatic expressions, etc. This knowledge is essential for the complete understanding of reading, writing and other cultural media.

Students interested in understanding American culture will benefit from exposure to the experiences of the members of that culture, such as our tutors.

Citizenship

We offer citizenship classes, citizenship tutoring, and mock citizenship interviews. An assessment of speaking and literacy levels will be administered and if the students' English language skills are not at the level needed to pass the citizenship test, they will be referred to an English Language tutor first.

Sample Citizenship Questions - Test what you know!

1. What is the supreme law of the land?

2. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one.

3. What is one reason colonists came to America?

GED Support

According to the U.S. Census 11% of Wisconsin adults over 25 do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent. About 10,000 of these adults will earn either a high school equivalency diploma (HSED) or certificate of general educational development (GED) each year. Students requiring help with the GED program can be matched with a tutor that will help with study skills and test preparation.
